History
Vikram Logistic
and Maritime Services Private Limited (VLMS)
was formed in 1972 and subsequently incorporated as a private limited company in
1992. VLMS initially started out as a civil construction and repair Company, primarily
for the Indian Railways. The Company started transportation of steel for Tata Steel
from 1975. The Company then diversified into handling and moving containers for
the Railways, a job that was continued till 1989, when the Container Corporation
of India Ltd. (CONCOR) under the Ministry of Railways was set up. With the formation
of CONCOR, an Inland Container Depot (ICD) was set up at Whitefield, in Bangalore.
The yard management and handling operations at the ICD Bangalore has been the sole
preserve of Vikram Logistic and Maritime Services since inception in 1981-a Silver
Jubilee of brand loyalty built on efficiency and reliability. As a logical follow
through VLMS started container transportation in 1991 from the ICD at Bangalore
to Chennai. Port ICD operations of CONCOR at Chennai commenced in 1990 and VLMS
graduated into handling and transportation at Chennai harbor. With a modern inventory
of heavy handling and transportation equipment, VLMS currently handles over 300,000
TEUs per annum. The Company also took a stride forward in handling air cargo at
the Air Cargo complex in Chennai.
